On Sunday, Anfield hosts one of the biggest clashes of the Premier League season, as Liverpool take on defending champions Arsenal. The Londoners haven’t won a league game at the Reds’ home ground since 2012, but they’re arriving in excellent form this time. Will they finally break their winless run, or will Liverpool continue closing the gap to the top of the table?
After eight rounds, Liverpool sit fourth with 15 points, six points behind Arsenal. However, Andoni Iraola’s side is starting to find momentum, having won their last five competitive matches, including a 2–0 league win over Brighton.
Their home form is less convincing, though, as Liverpool have won just one of their four league games at Anfield this season. Manchester City also beat them 3–0 on this ground earlier in the campaign.
Arsenal have started the season with seven wins and one defeat, sitting level on points at the top of the table with 21. Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded just five goals, keeping a clean sheet in five of their eight league matches.
The Londoners most recently beat Everton 2–0, but suffered a major upset in midweek, crashing out of the League Cup against fourth-tier side Fleetwood.
Liverpool–Arsenal: Injuries and Absences
Dominik Szoboszlai’s participation for Liverpool remains uncertain. The Hungary international midfielder is struggling with a hamstring issue and also missed the cup match against Chelsea. Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley, and Hugo Ekitiké are all confirmed absentees, while Víctor Muñoz’s involvement is also in doubt.
For Arsenal, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are unavailable through injury, while Max Dowman is serving a suspension. Decisions on Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori, and Noni Madueke are expected to be made after the final training sessions.
Liverpool–Arsenal Betting Tips
Given Liverpool’s improving form and home advantage, we wouldn’t write off the Reds, though Arsenal’s solid defense is a strong argument in the visitors’ favor. Arteta’s side haven’t been involved in a single match with more than three goals in any of their eight league games this season.
Our tip: Under 3.5 goals.
We feel the stakes of this match and Arsenal’s organized defense could lead to a tactical, tightly contested showdown. Arsenal are unlikely to take unnecessary risks, and Liverpool will hardly want to deepen their deficit with another home defeat.
As an alternative, we also find the Arsenal or Draw (Double Chance) market interesting. The Londoners have been more consistent this season, and Liverpool’s home record this year doesn’t justify overrating the hosts. Odds provided by Boabet.
