On Saturday evening, the Bundesliga’s two unbeaten leaders will clash at the Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have both collected 17 points after seven matchdays, making this edition of Der Klassiker a genuine title clash. The home side’s attack is formidable, while Dortmund’s defence has been nearly flawless so far.
Bayern lead the table with five wins and two draws, and with 25 goals scored, they are by far the Bundesliga’s most prolific team. The Bavarians thrashed Magdeburg 6–1 in the German Cup midweek, and Harry Kane will come into the clash well-rested.
The newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner has a particular fondness for playing against Dortmund: he has scored six goals in six Bundesliga matches against the yellow-and-blacks. Michael Olise is also in excellent form, with four league goals and five assists to his name.
Dortmund, however, aren’t tied for top spot by accident. Niko Kovac’s side has conceded just four goals in seven matches, keeping a clean sheet on five occasions. The visitors have won their last three competitive matches, and on Tuesday they knocked Werder Bremen out of the cup.
Bayern Munich–Dortmund: injuries and absences
Luis Díaz’s hamstring injury is a serious blow for Bayern. Vincent Kompany still can’t take his place on the bench due to health issues, so Aaron Danks is in charge of the team. Manuel Neuer’s availability is also in question, meaning Jonas Urbig could start in goal.
For Dortmund, the absence of Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias limits their attacking options. Alongside Serhou Guirassy, Maximilian Beier could be one of the visitors’ key men.
Bayern Munich–Dortmund betting tips
Based on both teams’ form so far, we consider Bayern the favourites. The Bavarians have set an astonishing pace at home, scoring 18 goals in total across their first three Bundesliga matches.
Dortmund’s defence, however, could pose a serious test for Kane and co. Given the visitors’ disciplined play, we don’t necessarily expect another Munich goal-fest, but we believe the quality of the home attack could prove decisive.
Our tip: Bayern Munich to win.
One statistical model used by major international forecasting sites gives the home side close to a 67% chance of winning. We broadly agree with this, though at such low odds, the value of the bet may be questionable.
As an alternative, we’d also consider Harry Kane to score. The English striker’s excellent record against Dortmund and Bayern’s attacking dominance both support this pick.
Our final tip comes down to a combined bet, expecting both a Bayern win and a Kane goal. We took the odds from Boabet, where new players can currently claim a huge welcome bonus.
Bayern Munich–Dortmund: Saturday, October 31, 18:30, Allianz Arena.
