How We Test – Our Approach to Reviewing Sports Betting Sites

At Topsters, our goal is not simply to review sports betting sites, but to evaluate them based on real user experience whenever possible.

After all, a bookmaker can look very different on paper compared to what players actually experience when using its services. A sportsbook may offer an extensive range of sports, attractive bonuses, or promising withdrawal terms – but what matters most to us is how these features perform in practice.

That is why our reviews at Topsters are not based solely on information published on bookmakers’ websites. We register accounts, make deposits, place bets, test various features, contact customer support, and, whenever possible, evaluate the withdrawal process as well.

Below, we explain how we conduct our bookmaker reviews at Topsters..

1. Registration and Account Creation

Whenever possible, we begin our testing process exactly where a new player would: with registration.

Among other things, we evaluate:

2. Deposit Options

The next step is examining the cashier and deposit system.

We check the available payment methods, minimum and maximum amounts, any fees, and whether the options listed by the provider are actually available to Hungarian players.

If we make a real deposit during the test, we also take those experiences into account.

It’s particularly important to us that the financial terms are clear. A good payment system not only offers many options but also transparently communicates limits, fees, and processing conditions.

3. Checking Bonuses and Promotions

With sports betting bonuses, it’s not enough to look at the amount displayed on the homepage.

We always try to uncover the conditions behind it as well.

We examine, for example:

If we claim a bonus during our own test, we indicate that separately.

Our goal is not to make a promotion look as big as possible, but to help readers understand what conditions actually apply when using it.

4. Sports Betting Range and Markets

During the test, we naturally use the betting platform itself.

We examine the range of sports and leagues, the markets available for major matches, live betting options, and how quickly and easily a particular event can be found.

We pay special attention to sports and markets that Hungarian bettors frequently look for, such as football, tennis, handball, basketball, or darts.

We don’t just look at the number of markets. Usability is equally important: it doesn’t matter if a bookmaker offers tons of betting options if they’re difficult to navigate.

5. Comparing Odds

When examining odds, we don’t try to draw sweeping conclusions from a single cherry-picked price.

We compare the odds offered across different sports, matches, and markets with current offers from other bookmakers.

Odds constantly change, so any comparison shows the state at a particular moment. We take this into account in our evaluation.

The goal is to map out how competitive the provider’s offering is in practice.

6. Website and Mobile Use

A significant portion of bookmakers are now used via mobile phone, so the mobile experience is an important testing criterion for us as well.

We examine, among other things, the site’s speed, navigation, bet slip usability, the live betting interface, and how easy it is to find necessary functions on a smaller screen.

If the provider has a separate mobile app and we tested it, we indicate our experiences with the app separately.

7. Customer Support

It’s difficult to form an opinion about a bookmaker’s customer support based solely on information found on the website.

So when we have the opportunity, we contact support with a real question.

We check:

We distinguish between what a provider claims about its customer support and what we experienced during our own test.

8. Withdrawal

Withdrawal is one of the most important parts of bookmaker testing.

When we have the opportunity to conduct a full test, we also initiate a real withdrawal request.

In such cases, we monitor the identity verification process, withdrawal methods, any limits and fees, and how much time passes between submitting the request and receiving the money.

However, it’s important to note that a single successful withdrawal does not prove that every player will have the same experience in every case. We therefore treat our own test result as a specific experience, not a general guarantee.

9. Security, Licenses, and Background Information

In addition to our own user testing, we also verify information that cannot be directly tested with a bet.

This may include the operating company, the stated gambling license, terms and conditions, privacy documents, and responsible gambling tools.

When we provide such data, we strive to verify it from primary or official sources.

10. Not All Our Tests Are Equally In-Depth

We value transparency: we don’t claim to have tested every function at the same depth for every bookmaker we feature.

For some providers, we conduct a full test with registration, deposit, betting, and withdrawal. In other cases, we present certain information based on documentation, terms of use, or other verifiable sources.

Where a statement is based on our own experience, we try to make that clear. Where we provide external or official information, we don’t present it as our own test result.

11. Affiliate Partnerships and Editorial Independence

Topsters uses affiliate links. This means that in certain cases we may receive a commission if a reader registers with one of our partners through a link on our site.

However, this does not change what experiences we describe about a provider.

If we encounter a problem during testing, we consider it relevant information even if the provider is a commercial partner.

The partnership and the editorial evaluation are two separate things.

12. We Update Our Tests

Sports betting sites are constantly changing. Bonuses, payment options, limits, features, terms, or even the operational background may be modified.

That’s why we periodically review our previously completed tests.

If we learn of a significant change, we try to update the affected content. For this reason, we also indicate the date of the last update for each test.

What Does ‘Tested’ Mean to Us?

For us, testing does not mean reading a bookmaker’s own introduction and then describing the same thing in different words.

Where we have the opportunity to do so, we go through the process as real users.

We register. We deposit. We bet. We try out the features. We ask customer support questions. We initiate withdrawals. Meanwhile, we document what worked well and where we encountered problems.

Our goal is not to claim that a single test predicts every player’s future experience. However, we can show what happened when we used the service ourselves.

That’s the difference between a product description and a real Topsters test.
