On Wednesday evening, Real Madrid host RB Leipzig in matchday three of the Champions League league phase. José Mourinho’s side have won both of their Champions League matches so far and remain unbeaten at home. The Germans will need a major upset to pick up points here.
Real Madrid are heading into the match in excellent form. The Madrid side opened their Champions League campaign with a 2–1 win over Inter, then came from behind to beat Roma 4–3 away in an eventful match. Most recently, they thrashed Sevilla 4–1, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice and Arda Güler and Yan Diomande also on the scoresheet.
Real have been especially impressive at the Bernabéu: they’ve won all six home matches this season, scoring 19 goals and conceding just four.
Leipzig have been far more inconsistent. Martín Demichelis’s side began their Champions League campaign with a 4–1 defeat to Como, then beat PSV 1–0. At the weekend, however, they suffered a heavy 6–1 defeat away to Bayern Munich.
Interestingly, the Germans did beat Real Madrid once before, back in 2022, and their most recent visit to the Bernabéu ended in a 1–1 draw.
Real Madrid–RB Leipzig: Injuries and Absences
Real Madrid will be without Rodrygo, Ferland Mendy, and Raúl Asencio through injury. Vinícius Júnior, however, could return, as his suspension only applies to La Liga.
Leipzig’s two confirmed absentees are Christoph Baumgartner and Assan Ouédraogo. Up front, Christopher Nkunku, Antonio Nusa, and Brajan Gruda could pose the biggest threat. Nkunku is just one goal away from becoming the club’s all-time top scorer in the Champions League.
Real Madrid–RB Leipzig Betting Tips
Given home advantage, current form, and squad strength, Real Madrid are the clear favorites. Leipzig can still be dangerous going forward, but their defense visibly fell apart against Bayern.
From a betting standpoint, we find the combination of a Real Madrid win and over 1.5 goals appealing, though unfortunately the bookmakers offer very short odds on that option. Madrid have scored 19 goals across their six home matches so far, while Leipzig have conceded ten in their last two defeats alone.
As an alternative, the over 2.5 goals market is also worth considering, combined with betting against Leipzig’s goals. The Germans might score once, but not more, according to this tip.
Given Real’s attacking power and the visitors’ vulnerable defense, we’re expecting another high-scoring match.
Real Madrid–RB Leipzig: Wednesday, 21 October, 9:00 PM, Santiago Bernabéu.
