Cheltenham day 2 tips: Coral Cup, Champion Chase and more!

With Cheltenham day 2 on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about the bets you want to place. With seven races happening on day 2, including the famed Coral Cup and Champion Chase, you will have plenty of opportunity to rack up some wins if you choose the right bets.

Our Cheltenham day 2 tips should hopefully steer you in the right direction. We’ll also give you a few hints on some of the best sites for horse race betting on Cheltenham day 2.

Queen Mother Champion Chase

Honestly, this is one of the races where only two horses will matter — El Fabiolo and Jonbon. Assuming that no unforeseen circumstances arise during the race, we expect these two are going to lead the pack all the way to the finish.

El Fabiolo is coming fresh off a few top wins, mostly in Ireland, and he is the slight favorite for this event. This is mostly due to the fact that Jonbon has had a tough time lately. Despite this, Jonbon may end up recovering for the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle

This will be the race that kicks off the day, and while it is nowhere near the biggest event on the  Cheltenham day 2 tips list, it may be where some of you make some cash if you pick wisely.

Our only tip here is to bet on Ballyburn. All through the racing season, he has proven that he has what it takes to go the distance. Slade Steel may be hot on his heels, but we expect Ballyburn will be crossing the finish line in first place.

Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase

Normally, we would have a tough time predicting who’ll be crossing the finish line in a novice’s race, since we haven’t seen much of the runners. However, after his serious win at the Dublin Racing Festival, where we expect a few people won big, there is little to no chance that Fact to File won’t be crossing the finish line in first place.

If you want to bet on the only horse that really has a chance of beating Fact to File, then you can try Grey Dawning. He would win any other day of the week, but he doesn’t quite have what it takes to push past Fact to File, a horse that is likely going to be dominating the bookies for a long time to come.

Coral Cup

Perhaps the toughest race of the day to predict will be the Coral Cup. There are so many runners here, and pretty much every single one of them has a chance of winning. We always see it in the big races. All it takes is one slip and even the horse with the biggest outside chance can take it.

If you want to play it safe, then you should be aiming to bet on Doddiethegreat. He probably has the best odds going into the event, and he has been fairly consistent over hurdles. Beyond this, it is exceedingly tough to predict who may have a chance due to the large size of the field, and there are just so many horses that have been performing well throughout the season.

Cross Country Chase

The only horse that really stands a chance in the Cross Country Chase is Minella Indo. He won the Gold Cup and did an incredible job in doing so. While he did have a bit of a poor latter part of 2023, he seems to be back on track, and is likely to carry that consistency back into Cheltenham day 2.

Grand Annual Chase

The Grand Annual Chase will be taken by either Saint Roi or Master Chewy. We believe that Saint Roi has a slightly better chance and may be a banker bet. We would suggest that you put down an each way bet on Master Chewy though.

Champion Bumper

Champion Bumper is another race that seems particularly hard to predict this year. However, we’ve asked a few other tipsters, and almost everybody seems to be putting their money on Maughreen this year, so it may be worth doing the same.

Some people did suggest that The Yellow Clay has a decent outside chance, but we can’t stress enough how much of an outside chance it is. It may be a bit too risky for those that are aiming to play their bets a bit safer.

Where to bet on Cheltenham day 2

Since Cheltenham is one of the biggest days on the racing calendar, you’ll have no shortage of places to gamble. Here are some of our top picks:

BetFred

BetFred is running one of the better Cheltenham day 2 promotions. Bet £10 on Cheltenham, and they’ll throw up to £40 in bonuses your way (some of these bonuses will apply to their casino).

BetFred will be streaming the races at Cheltenham, as will most of the bookies on this list. They also offer great odds on many of the tips we provided above.

Bet365

Honestly, most of the top betting sites for Cheltenham day 2 will have very similar betting odds, so you’ll just be jumping between them to see which suits your needs the best. Bet365 is another top site, and you can get £30 of Cheltenham betting bonuses when you pony up £10 in bets.

Paddy Power

Paddy Power will give you £50 in free Cheltenham bets when you place five £10 bets, which means placing a decent bet on most of the races for day 2. Paddy Power often has some of the best odds, particularly when they run their enhanced odds market in the lead-up to the event. Bear in mind though that their enhanced odds will rarely cover the favorites. After all, they don’t want to throw their cash away.

Sky Bet

Finally, we have Sky Bet, who will give you up to £40 in free horse racing bets. They provide great odds and live streaming of every single event happening on the big day!
