Everton vs Newcastle: League Cup Betting Tips (2026)

Contents

Thursday evening brings the final fourth-round tie of the English League Cup, as Everton host Newcastle. The home side are looking to bounce back after two consecutive defeats, while Newcastle arrive in Liverpool on the back of an important league win. Adding extra intrigue, the two sides are also set to meet in the Premier League just days later.

Everton began the season on an eight-match unbeaten run, but have stumbled in recent weeks. David Moyes’ side suffered back-to-back 2-0 defeats, first to Chelsea and then to Arsenal, dropping into the lower half of the league table.

The Merseysiders’ attack hasn’t been particularly convincing either, with just eight league goals scored so far this season. In the League Cup, however, they’ve cruised through, beating Preston 4-0 and Wolverhampton 1-0.

Newcastle have also shown inconsistent form lately, but their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend could give Matthias Jaissle’s side some much-needed momentum.

The Magpies reached the last 16 by knocking out West Bromwich Albion and Millwall. The League Cup holds special significance for them too: they won the competition in 2025 and have reached the fourth round in each of the last seven seasons.

Injuries and Absences

At Everton, Jarrad Branthwaite missed the Arsenal game due to concussion, while Jack Grealish was out with illness. Both remain doubtful for this fixture. Moyes is expected to make a few changes, with Tyler Dibling and Carlos Alcaraz both in line for a chance.

At Newcastle, Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen remain sidelined, while Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley are doubtful. Jaissle has indicated he’s taking the cup competition seriously, so we’re not expecting a heavily rotated starting lineup.

Harvey Barnes and William Osula could feature prominently again after the weekend win, while Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga may also start.

Everton vs Newcastle Betting Tips

Based on current form, we expect a tight contest, though Newcastle’s attack currently looks more convincing. The visitors have scored in 10 of their 11 competitive matches this season, while Everton have gone two league games without finding the net.

One statistical model from a leading international forecasting site puts Newcastle’s win probability at 42.31%, compared to 34.53% for Everton.

From a betting perspective, we see value in a Newcastle progression bet. The Magpies have shown in recent years that they take the League Cup seriously, and their attacking lineup features several players capable of deciding a tight match.

As an alternative, the Newcastle or draw double chance market is also worth considering. Everton are a dangerous side at home, but given the visitors’ current form, we lean slightly towards Newcastle.

Our main tip for Everton vs Newcastle is therefore the X2, backed via an Asian handicap. We’ve taken the odds from Boabet, which is currently offering new players a bonus worth up to HUF 400,000.
