The Greek is going for his third title and the Norwegian his first in Monte Carlo in the first clay Masters final of the season.
All the signs were pointing to a decider in Monte Carlo between world number one Novak Djokovic and challenger Jannik Sinner. Those who were expecting this gigantic final were disappointed on Saturday as the Serb lost to Casper Ruud and the Italian to former two-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, meaning a Norway-Greece final will be staged in the principality.
This is not a bad match either, as it will be a match between two tennis players who have both played in the Roland Garros final and were both ranked in the top 3. They are in a slightly more modest position and have had less focus, but they should be very motivated.

Tsitsipas last played in a final in Los Cabos last summer and last reached the Masters in August 2022. Ruud has reached two finals this year, but has not won a tournament in over a year.
So both players are in desperate need of such success. As you can see above, the bookmakers prefer to give the match to Tsitsipas, which could be mainly due to the fact that he beat this year’s best player, Sinner, in the semi-finals. Of course, Djokovic’s scalp was no mean feat from the Norwegian, but perhaps that was the less surprising result.

Their previous matches are not really relevant, as they have only met once on clay, three years ago in Madrid, but they played in much faster conditions.
The good news is that the weather forecast for Sunday in Monte Carlo is fine and sunny, so it should be a smooth game. It’s hard to predict which style will prevail, but all in all, it should be a clay-court match.
They both play good tennis and will probably have their ups and downs during the final, so it would be surprising for us if either could dominate this match and we could see a one-sided battle.
