Ronaldo could be the star of the Portuguese opener
The Portuguese national football team, who are also favourites to win the final, will kick off their 2024 European Championship campaign against the Czech Republic.
Tuesday will also see the start of Group F action, with Portugal vs. The balance of power is fairly clear, with Portugal arriving in Germany as one of the favourites to win the tournament, while the Czech Republic will be hoping to progress from the group.
Team news Portugal vs Czech Republic
Uniquely for Portugal, three of the top teams have also scheduled three pre-season matches for the beginning of June. The Finns and the Irish were easily dispatched, with seven goals scored in the two games a good omen ahead of the Euros. But not the fact that the Croats beat the Lusitanians, so it’s a big question as to how steely this team is now. What is certain is that Roberto Martínez will try to play more attacking football with Portugal than in the past, and the Belgian coach, unlike his predecessor, will continue to build the team around Cristiano Ronaldo. The 39-year-old’s place in the starting line-up is unquestionable, so the question is who will be deployed alongside him in the forward line. The preliminary expectation is that Leao and Bernardo Silva of Milan will have a say, leaving Joao Félix and Diogo Jota on the bench. Don’t take any chances, though, the official starters will be the only certainty.
The Czechs warmed up for the European Championship against Malta and Macedonia, scoring two victories. The last time they lost was in October last year, and since then they have played 7 matches, although the quality of the opponents cannot be compared to the quality of the current opponents, Portugal.
The Czechs prefer a very solid 3-5-2 formation, and they will hardly concede in this match, as they will probably be under heavy pressure on their goal all the time.

There can be no doubt that the Portuguese will progress from this group, but they will need to win the must-win matches. The game against the Czechs is something like that, but it could be a tricky encounter for Ronaldo’s side. They are a great little team, the Czech national team, which doesn’t want to look like anything more than what it is, and is clever in using the weapons at its disposal.
With that said, we think the Portuguese could be on the end of their run, so we’ll try to take advantage with our goal-money bets. You can bet on 2-3 Portuguese goals at odds of 1.90.
The star of the match will of course be Cristiano Ronaldo, who warmed up for the Euros with a double. He looks unassailable as CR7 and is unlikely to be super-motivated at this Euro. Ronaldo’s goal can also be called for in our opinion, as he is both the centre and penalty-taker of the team, so if there are any Portuguese goals he can take his share of them.
