Premier League race – schedule, predictions & outright odds
With seven rounds to go, three teams are virtually neck and neck at the top of the PL table. Premier League race chedule, predictions & outright odds.
The Premier League race for the gold medal is set to be a thrilling one. Liverpool lost top spot in the Premier League at the weekend after Jürgen Klopp’s side could only draw 2-2 with Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Reds had the win in hand – Soboslai also missed a great chance at 1-1 – but failed to capitalise on their goal-scoring opportunities, and with Arsenal and defending champions Man City both having their own games, the standings were reshuffled.
So with seven rounds to go, this is how the English top flight looks. It’s a pretty astonishing state of affairs, something that is very rare indeed. We’ve seen it many times where two teams are neck and neck right up until the last round, but it’s very rare to see a three-way finish like this.
Who will be the Premier League champion in 2024?
Now that’s a question that may be impossible to answer right now. Nuances will decide between the teams, tiny tussles could be decisive, so it’s no wonder that the bookies don’t have much idea of the eventual winner.
Defending champions Man City are now top of the power rankings, followed by Arsenal and finally Liverpool. The odds have probably also been set by the draw, so we’ve put together a list of the games that are still to come.
The easiest schedule for City, the hardest for Arsenal?
Pep Guardiola’s side don’t really have any games left to play, apart from the game against Tottenham. Of course in the PL this is a relative statement, because you can’t really be sure against Brighton or West Ham.
That said, City’s situation does look better than the others. Arsenal, for example, still have a London clash against Chelsea and Tottenham and a trip to Manchester United. They also play Aston Villa and in the last round against Everton, who are on the run from relegation, it may not be an easy task. This looks like a very tough draw, with dangerous and difficult opponents.
Liverpool also have only the game against Tottenham left in the ‘BigSix’, but they have an away game against Aston Villa and a cancelled city derby with Everton. The draw for Szoboszlai is a tricky one, as virtually all the opponents are dangerous, even if none of the pairings can be called top class. It could also be a 7/7 win.
Who does it better with soufflés?
When looking at the Premier League race, it’s certainly the height of the season, and fatigue can be the deciding factor. All three teams are still in contention for the European Cup, with City and Arsenal preparing for a Champions League quarter-final and Liverpool preparing for the same in the Europa League. In fact, all three teams have a good chance of progressing, with City and Liverpool being the two teams that the bookmakers are predicting to be the biggest contenders for the final victory.
It remains to be seen whether they will actually progress, as Real Madrid, Bayern or Benfica could pose a serious challenge. In any case, perhaps this year, for once, the relegation candidates will not be so sad, as that would leave more room for the tightest league run-in of all time. Let’s not forget that City also have an FA Cup final against Chelsea…
Premier League race – The value in Liverpool’s odds?
No matter how we skirt around the issue, we’re not really any closer to a solution. While City’s league draw is favourable, Guardiola’s schedule is the busiest due to the three-legged battle.
Arsenal have the toughest games ahead of them, and the Londoners have already seen relegation around April, if we only think back to last season.
Liverpool could get an extra boost from Jürgen Klopp’s final weeks in charge. If need be, we could even see them ditching the EL for the PL. Sobbo’s draw looks easier than Arsenal’s, for example, but the play on show hasn’t been that convincing recently.
That said, Liverpool have a points advantage over, for example, City, yet they are still seven tenths higher odds to win the title. For us, it might be a bit smaller…
