We are clearly betting against Messi on this market
We have a long shot on who will be the best player of the Copa América.
The Copa América is approaching its semi-finals, with Argentina v Canada at dawn on Wednesday and Uruguay v Colombia on Thursday in the United States. We now give you a tip on a special market with odds of @5.00, which could be surprisingly high.
We bet on the best player of the tournament, which in most cases will be from the final winning team. But there have been exceptions in the past year, and we’re hoping for something similar this year. Of course, if Colombia were to win the Copa, it would be practically 99% who would win the title, but we think that at the moment one player stands out from the rest, so we’re in with a good chance of going for bronze.
At the age of 33, James Rodríguez is having a tremendous Copa performance, scoring 1 goal and assisting 5(!) in 4 games. 87% of his assists are accurate, no wonder he was twice voted the best player of the match. If you look at the average score of Whoscored, only Jon Aramburu from Venezuela has a better grade,
James Rodríguez has a score of 8.35, while Lionel Messi is in 7th place with 7.63.
We have highlighted Bolha for a reason, as Vegas believe that he could be the winner of this tournament, especially if he defends Argentina’s title. However, if Messi doesn’t add something extra in the next two games, “just” a straightforward win for Albiceleste, he might not get the title. Let’s also not forget that Leo missed a penalty against Ecuador, and quite timidly at that. Of course, we also know that it’s not easy for anyone against Messi, especially as this will be the last major tournament of his career.
In third place we find Darwin Nunez and Lautaro Martínez, but the latter is unlikely to be the tournament’s top scorer, while the former, although he has two goals, has not yet made a mark.
It’s a good question what kind of result is needed to elect James, a defeat in the final against Argentina (if, say, Messi doesn’t win the game single-handedly) could be enough, but we wouldn’t bet on a bronze medal not being enough to get the accolade. If Colombia are knocked out by Uruguay, then another James goal could come against Canada, so this looks a particularly strong bet from Bet365.
