Even though they are top ranked matches, they may not be about the cards – free tips
On Tuesday and Wednesday we will analyse the card markets of Champions League with 22bet. Here are the best picks.
We have a fantastic Tuesday night ahead of us, and the hardest question is whether to choose Real-City or Arsenal-Bayern to relax. The safe bet is cold beer and popcorn, and there will be card tips and analysis for both Tuesday and Wednesday. Let’s get started!
Free pick for Arsenal-Bayern München
So Arsenal-Bayern and Real-City, with star referees, which is of course paperwork at this stage of the series. Perhaps the bigger surprise is the inclusion of Glenn Nyberg in the Anglo-German clash, as this is only the Swedish skipper’s second season in the BL. However, he has also conducted four group games, including one against Bayern Munich and one against Arsenal.
For a Scandinavian referee, he has been a low-key referee, with 2, 3, 1 and 2 cards, although a Bayern-MU or Sevilla-Arsenal match-up does not necessarily look like an easy encounter.
If you look at the statistics of the teams, you could even call this a matchup, but let’s not forget that this is a BL quarter-final, not just a beer match or a group game without stakes. England are on 11 cautions in 8 games, while Bayern have picked up the same number, including Upamecano’s red in Rome. That’s a very low average, with a very under-performing referee.
We’re not really hiding our betting tips for this match, we’re going to play the undert at the 3.5 to 4.5 mark offered by 22bet. Nyberg has never given 4 cards in the BL, and if we look at his overall international performance, he has only overextended 3 times in 18 games at the 4.5 mark. Sporting teams, presumably in their tactical first game, we don’t think there is a chance of many cards.
Free pick for Real Madrid-Manchester City
Manchester City and Real Madrid can’t get enough of each other as they play their sixth game against each other in two calendar years. Manchester City are favourites again, but anything can happen in Madrid.
UEFA have appointed the young but experienced Francois Letexier, with whom City recently won the UEFA Super Cup. Although the 34-year-old Frenchman’s name is a familiar one, this will be only his second quarter-final, having managed Real Chelsea last season, where he showed Ben Chilwell a straight red.
The 4 recent BL matches have resulted in a total of 16 yellow cards, 18 including extra time, which is not too many, although the second match was not close.
What is a serious indicator, however, is City’s statistics. Pep Guardiola’s side are on 5(!) cards in 8 games, which is incredible because there is no team in the 32-team Champions League field that hasn’t reached at least 11.
Real, on the other hand, are about average, having produced 14 yellow cards in 8 meetings.
But what could be the deciding factor is the one we wrote about on Monday. Ancelotti has key players at risk, and Bellingham or Vinícius coming off would be a huge blow in the return leg.
The 4.0 limit is more interesting here, as Letexier has only conceded less than 4.0 in 5 of his 12 BL games, while he has 5 red cards and 6 penalties. With these factors, it is a difficult match-up to bet on, although the bookies are expecting more cards from City, for example. We’re backing the English under at flattering odds.
