Saturday’s FA Cup match between Manchester City and Newcastle at the Ethiad will see the home side as the clear favourites. An away win would pay around 10.00, even though the Magpies have made things difficult for the defending champions on several occasions this season.
Manchester City’s top match against Liverpool ended in a draw, leaving the Premier League battle totally open. It’s been a tough few weeks for City, but the FA Cup semi-final is at stake and the chances of a treble are still there for Manchester City.
City have won 21 of their 23 games without defeat since the Club World Cup, with the twin wins coming against Chelsea and Liverpool.
So the spring rally is still on, and although City are not always entirely convincing, the results are a clear vindication of them.
Newcastle remain in serious crisis after another defeat on Monday, this time at home to Chelsea. The 3 goals conceded doesn’t look good, with Eddie Howe increasingly giving the impression that he can’t manage things at the back. With their poor defensive play aside, the strikers can play well, but Newcastle can’t match the level of their serious rivals.
The two sides met not so long ago in the league, when the Magpies held on for long periods, at St James’ Park. Guardiola’s side could only hold out for a 3-2 win after the 90th minute, but that should give Newcastle something to hold on to.
With Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson both out for the game against Liverpool, the City will have to do without them to qualify to the semi final. Anthony Gordon is a fresh absentee for the visitors, meaning Howe will be without another key player.
