Is this a trap or a sure bet for the Brighton round?
It’s the sixth night of the Premier League and this time the venue is Brighton. We have a combined tip for you!
Last Thursday, Michael van Gerwen’s winning streak was snapped as the Dutchman lost nine games in a row, but he still remains confident at the top of the table. Behind him, however, the field has become even more crowded, with just four points separating second-placed Luke Littler and seventh-placed Gerwyn Price.
We are only five rounds in, but with the exception of the last Peter Wright, everyone else has won at least once, which shows how evenly matched the field is.

From what we’ve seen so far, it’s fair to say that anyone can beat anyone, but in a way that’s okay, because the best in the world are taking to the stage week after week, with only subtle differences between them.
Brighton will start with a Luke Humphries – Gerwyn Price clash, with the Englishman the favourite on paper. Price has been less impressive over the last few weeks, going one leg better than Rob Cross at Exeter last week – the Englishman did throw an extra – and then being knocked out of the UK Open in his first match. But Humphries won the final at the weekend and had he not been up against the sluggish Van den Bergh in the final, he would probably have won another major title. He’s in a better frame of mind for ‘Cooln Hand’, can count on the support of the crowd and has beaten Price in this year’s Premier League, so all the ingredients are in place for an English success to start the evening.
Embed from Getty ImagesThe other top flight match sees Robb Cross and Michael van Gerwen go head-to-head. As mentioned above, the Dutchman didn’t make the move last week in Exeter, but the UK Open was a disaster for him after he, like Price, stuttered in his first match. Cross, on the other hand, has been on a strong run of form in the past week, so this meeting could well be a real upset. Something that could work against the Englishman is that he last beat Van Gerwen in May last year and has lost to the Dutchman four times since, most recently on the third night of the PL in Glasgow.
On the other side of the board, Exeter winner Nathan Aspinall and Luke Littler will be competing. Given the way the two Englishmen played, few would have guessed that Aspinall would win a round before Littler. But it also shows how well you have to manage matches on a long night like this. But the 17-year-old Englishman has a very difficult job to do, because everyone is soaking up against him and it’s not easy to throw at a very high level all the time, and he has his ups and downs.
However, he always starts very strongly at the beginning of the rounds, averaging 102.48 points in his first games and outscoring his opponents four out of five times.
So Aspinall will need a good chance of going the extra mile if he is to be in with a chance of winning.
Last up is Michael Smith and Peter Wright. The Scotsman is a disgrace at the end of the field with zero points, having yet to win a single match. Although Smith has one round win, he hasn’t won a match in the last three Thursdays, so it’s not a bad prospect for Wright, especially given his improving form.
