Here’s our tip for the Alcaraz-Sinner blockbuster
The dream match has been created at Roland Garros, with the semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner set to be a marathon battle.
On Friday, the men take centre stage in Paris for the semi-finals. In the lower bracket, the dream match has come true as future world number one Jannik Sinner will face defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.
“This is a match everyone wants to see,” said the Spaniard.
This semi-final could be billed as a pre-final, as it is perhaps no exaggeration to say that these two are two of the best players in the world and two of the most influential players of the coming years.
Their rivalry is now in its tenth chapter, with the score 5-4 in favour of Alcaraz, who won their only encounter this year in three sets in the semi-finals at Indian Wells. In terms of their Grand Slam history, they played at Wimbledon and the US Open two years ago, the Italian winning the former and the Spaniard the latter. The final set match in New York was one of the most exciting and high quality matches in recent years. It would be nice to see something similar in Paris…

In the tournament, both players took the obstacles with great confidence and their opponents could only manage to pick up the gauntlet in one set each.
This will be a huge prestige match between the two and it could be a matter of which one of them calms down first and which one can take the lead. They certainly know each other very well, and on clay this will be by far their most high stakes match ever.
I can’t deny that I’m always a little more nervous when I play Jannik. He’s the best player in the world at the moment and it’s a challenge to beat him. It will be exciting. Our previous matches have been incredible. I hope everyone enjoys this semi-final as much as I do – said Alcaraz.

Frankly, we expected the odds to be closer than that. This looks like a very out-and-out game, it could really come down to nuances. As we’d give odds of 1.90-1.90, it makes sense to back the Italian to win at 2.36. Of course, Sinners will have an awfully tough task, as Alcaraz is showing some serious power in the tournament.
