Darts: We would have doubled Liverpool with four ties
The 13th round of the Premier League is upon us and this time the field is in Liverpool.
The first course on the menu will be an Anglo-Welsh battle, starring Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price. The former slipped back to second in the table after last week’s early defeat, but is still in a very good position, unlike ‘Iceman’, who should have 10 points to show for his efforts in four rounds.
Price is unlikely to believe he can make the play-offs from here, but he is unlikely to want to finish the regular season without a tournament win, and he has had some very strong games recently, so we would be reluctant to take the young Englishman, despite his generally better spring.
The action continues with a thrilling English home clash between the leader Luke Humphries and last week’s winner Nathan Aspinall. The tight nature of the regular season means that if the latter is unbeaten at Liverpool, he could take over first place at the end of the round, but if he loses this match, he could slip back to fifth.
Although Humphries has had a very strong winning streak this season, he has failed to reach the final in the last four rounds, and he just smashed his knife into Aspinall a week ago. In light of this, the nearly three times odds on Asp are very tempting…
On the other side of the table, two world champions, Peter Wright and Michael van Gerwen, face each other in the previous match. For the Scot it’s a no contest, but for the Dutchman it’s a crucial meeting, as he went pointless in Rotterdam last week and his play-off place is in jeopardy once again.
On paper, Van Gerwen should be comfortable in this one, especially when you look at last week’s Wright, who didn’t even average 80…Now the Scot is on a terrible run again, with eight losses in a row.
The quarter-finals will be completed by two Englishmen, Michael Smith and Rob Cross, who are now the only ones who matter, as the latter has put the handbrake on at 11 points and is winless in six (!) rounds. Cross is not in such a bad way, as he won the semi-final at the weekend, but he is still in the PL with a negative streak in his head.
We have selected a safe bet for each of the four first-round matches, and by combining these selections we can win a bet well above double odds with 22bet.
