Bilbao and Mallorca could play the cup final of the 2023/24 season in Spain.
The Spanish La Liga is on a break this weekend and there are no league games, giving the field an extra weekend of rest. Well, most of it, as Bilbao and Mallorca prepare for the most important game of the year, as they will play in the 2023/24 King’s Cup final on Saturday night.
The bookmakers are of course favouring Bilbao, with a Basque win at odds of less than 1.70, while a win for the islanders would be worth five and a half times the money.
Both teams can be absolutely proud of the path they have taken to reach the final. Bilbao beat Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, among others, in their march to the final, while Mallorca can be justifiably proud of their elimination of Girona or Sociedad.
The last meeting between the two sides was in February, with Bilbao winning 4-0 six weeks ago, but it would be a mistake to expect such a big margin now, as this is a close encounter.
The last 10 meetings between the two sides have seen five Bilbao wins, four draws and only one Mallorca victory.
In Bilbao’s favour is the fact that they are a real cup specialist, second in the history of the Spanish King’s Cup with 23 victories, more than any other team in the competition.

It is never easy to find good bets on a cup final and this is no different. Although Bilbao are the favourites, we wouldn’t risk it at such low odds.
However, let’s hope that it won’t be a mind-numbingly boring encounter. It is almost certain that both sides will start the game cautiously and we don’t rule out the possibility that the sides will be deadlocked at half-time. We expect a goal output of between 0 and 1 goal in the first 45 minutes, so a second half with more goals seems quite reasonable at odds of 2.
