Do NOT bet on these players in this week’s Champions League matches!
If you like betting on player cards, we give you some good tips ahead of this week’s Champinons League matches.
There will be four quarter-finals on Tuesday and Wednesday, so we have 360 minutes of top-class football to look forward to. We’ll have a separate article on each day with the best ideas from the 22bet offerings, but let’s look at one important factor that can help us when betting on player cards.
The yellow cards are only erased after the quarter-finals in the Champions League, so whoever gets their 3rd warning this week or in the return legs will be in the next game. Let’s take a look at who the players at risk are.
How do we benefit as a bettor?
As yellow cards are cancelled after the quarter-finals, deliberate yellow carding is not necessarily an option. Obviously, if one team is leading 4-0 in the 80th minute, a key player could be allowed to play himself out for the return leg, but it is even easier if he simply does not play in the second leg.
But the basic principle is that these players should not be yellowed, especially in a close match. Even if we would like to give a card to Vinícius, for example, the players at risk are much more restrained and avoid conflicts. It seems more worthwhile to look for a “substitute”. For example, if the right-back is two yellow, then maybe that tactical foul on the wing will be committed by the right midfielder or the right centre-back instead. It is of course difficult to break things down at this level, but not inconceivable.
In this way we can find value in the odds, as bookmakers don’t build into their odds if someone is on 2 yellows, so obviously not if we prefer another player because of it.
