On Saturday, October 11th, the Hungarian national football team is preparing for a decisive match, hosting Armenia’s best players in Budapest in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
This week the 2026 World Cup qualification continues, and the Hungarian national team — eager for a direct spot or at least a playoff berth — will first take the field against Armenia, then against Portugal.
Marco Rossi’s side did not have a good start to the first two rounds, as they failed to secure three points against Ireland despite being two goals up, and then threw away a draw against Portugal in the dying minutes.
However, the 1 point earned in those two matches is not the end of the world, as the truly important games are only just getting started.
A home win against Armenia is absolutely necessary — if the three points don’t come, Hungary’s chances of appearing at next year’s World Cup will likely slip away.

Hungary – Armenia World Cup Qualifier – Odds and Chances
According to bookmakers, the Hungarian team is a strong favourite for the qualifier against Armenia. The best bookmakers are offering odds of around 1.45 for Marco Rossi’s side to win in Budapest, while an Armenian victory could pay out as much as 8–10 times the stake.
Hungary – Armenia Tickets
All tickets for the Hungary-Armenia World Cup qualifier scheduled for October 11th have sold out. Tickets may still be obtainable on the black market or through various prize draws and giveaways.

Hungary – Armenia Distance
Armenia, which belongs to the Eurasian zone, is quite far from us. The distance between Hungary and Armenia by car is approximately 2,960–3,020 km, depending on the departure and arrival points. Travelling by plane is considerably faster, as the straight-line distance is much shorter.
Who Are the Best Players in the Armenian National Football Team?
The Armenian national team, ranked 103rd in the world, does not boast any internationally recognised, world-class players. The most valuable member of their squad is 25-year-old midfielder Eduard Spertsyan, whose market value is estimated at €25 million by the Transfermarkt website. The majority of the Armenian squad plays in Russian and Armenian league football. They have only one player in a top-flight league, but Leon-Ranos, who plays for Mönchengladbach, is merely a fringe player at his club and rarely gets game time.
Hungary Without Dibusz, Sallai, and Varga Barnabás
Although a win is a matter of life and death for the Hungarian national team, Marco Rossi unfortunately cannot count on three of his key players. Dibusz Dénes, who became first-choice goalkeeper following Gulácsi Péter’s retirement, was injured in the league match against Paks, so either Szappanos or Tóth Balázs will take his place in goal.
Sallai Roland, who received a red card in the match against Ireland, is unavailable to the national coach due to suspension, while Varga Barnabás will miss the match due to a yellow card accumulation suspension. Both can return to the squad for the away match against Portugal.
