After a great European Championship, the Swiss are stuck in the autumn, while the Serbs are consistently poor.
Serbia and Switzerland are likely to battle it out for third place in the Nations League in Group A-4, with Denmark and Spain both currently looking much stronger than the two nations. The players from the two countries do not have a very good relationship, so it should definitely be a more peppery 90 minutes.
The Serbs will clearly be disappointed with the 2024 results, as they finished last in their group and only managed to come away with any wins at all in two friendlies against Sweden and Cyprus.

The poor results record is partly understandable, as there are clearly fewer Serbian stars in European top-flight football than there were a few years ago. Moreover, Vlahovic is not in the squad now, so Mitrovic could be the safe wedge. But the Serbian centre is scoring goals, if only in the Saudi league, then at least he is scoring a lot of goals… The midfield also seems to be depleted after the European Championship, as Kostic, Tadic and Milinkovic-Szavic are not available for the current round, so Dragan Stojkovic can choose from a midfield section of much more modest quality.
A big chapter has come to an end for the Swiss with the 2024 continental tournament, as both Sommer and Fabian Schar have retired from the national team, and Shaqiri is not in the squad, leaving only Xhaka as the only one of the main players of the last 5-10 years.
We may have seen the result of this in September, when they lost 2-0 to the Danes (albeit 0-0 down a man down) and 4-1 to Spain. Moreover, in the latter match the Hellenes had the advantage from the 20th minute onwards, although the scoreboard showed 0-2. In any case, it is clear that the Swiss national team will need some time before they can return to the level they showed at the European Championship.

We are expecting a clash between two teams in poor form and in a bit of a state of flux, where the big question is who can impose their will on the other. With the Serbs’ attacking play having been abysmal of late, and with the current squad missing, it is unlikely that the home side will be able to make a difference on Saturday.
That said, we think it’s worth betting on both teams to score. On the one hand, we are now getting very good odds on this betting option, and on the other hand, the Nations League series is not taken as seriously by teams as a big summer tournament.
